The effects of mastery and coping models on dental stress in young children

Abstract
The effects of two types of modelling videotapes, mastery and coping, on anxiety and disruptive behaviour in 5‐7‐year‐old children undergoing a restorative dental procedure were investigated. Results indicated that both treatment videotapes were more effective in reducing self‐report anxiety than was a placebo tape. There was no difference between the mastery and coping tapes in reducing anxiety. No differences were found between groups on the measure of disruptive behaviour.
