Abstract
Turbostratic α-nickel hydroxide has been obtained with an almost quantitative yield from NiSO4 solution. The chemical analyses and the infrared study show that a lot of SO42− anions are adsorbed and intercalated between Ni(OH)2 slabs. The large value of the intersheet distance and the infrared study show that the greater part of the intercalated SO42− anions are free in the Van der Waals space. During thermal treatment, the H2O loss is associated with a linking of SO42− anions with Ni2+ cations, as shown by the splitting of the ν3(SO)42− band in the infrared spectrum. Keywords
