Ultra-Long-Haul Transmission of 1.2-Tb/s Multicarrier No-Guard-Interval CO-OFDM Superchannel Using Ultra-Large-Area Fiber

Abstract
We investigate the transmission performance of a 1.2-Tb/s no-guard-interval coherent optical orthogonal frequency-division-multiplexing channel over ultra-large-area fiber (ULAF) using two different amplification schemes. Ultra-long-haul transmissions over 52 and 72 100-km ULAF spans are demonstrated using hybrid Raman/erbium-doped-fiber amplifier and all-Raman amplification schemes, respectively. The optical signal-to-noise-ratio performance and the signal tolerance to fiber nonlinearity under these two amplifications are discussed.
