In the treatment of first and second degree hemorrhoids, the He/Ne laser is an effective, simple and harmless clinical procedure, as an alternative to medical therapy or surgery. The authors describe the treatment carried out, indicating method and results of the application of red light 632.8 nm He/Ne laser. On the basis of therapy carried out at intervals of 5 days for a total of 6 treatments, a statistic control was reached. Results lead to the conclusion that greater or lesser laser radiation intensity lacks apparent importance. Treatment is effective in pain alleviation from the first session and final results are excellent as is shown by the table of statistics. The effects produced on rectum mucous are discussed offering a hypothetical explanation for its therapeutical action.
