Abstract
A brief review of the statistical theory of the equation of state is presented. Upon the basis of a recent quantum mechanical calculation of the interatomic energy, the second virial coefficient of helium has been calculated. With the use of the theoretically determined virial coefficient some properties of helium have been computed. A detailed comparison with experimental data is given.Keywords
