Abstract
To the Editor: Several recent articles have focused attention on recurrences of neurosyphilis after standard treatment of patients with concomitant infections with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).1 , 2 We report a case in which syphilitic uveitis recurred after treatment with penicillin G benzathine in an HIV-positive patient.A 31-year-old man presented to our ophthalmology clinic with decreasing vision and was found to have panuveitis in the left eye. The Treponema pallidum hemagglutination test for syphilis was positive, and the Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test (VDRL) titer was 1:128. The patient was treated with 2.4 million units of penicillin G benzathine intramuscularly . . .Keywords
