Design of Multiple Antennas at 5 GHz for Mobile Phone and its MIMO Performances

Abstract
MIMO systems require the implementation of multiple antennas at the mobile well adapted in both electromagnetic performances and decorrelation. We propose here a design of two PIFA elements working in the 4.7-6.2 GHz band and placed in orthogonal or in parallel configuration on a ground plane whose dimensions are compatible with a mobile phone. Its characteristics are suitable for MIMO applications. We have simulated the MIMO capacity in outdoor and in indoor environments with a geometrical propagation model based on measurements. The best capacity was found in a NLOS environment and for the antenna in orthogonal configuration which has a radiation pattern predominant in the vertical plane.
