The rise or decline of the Australian inner city? An analysis of recent trends in population, housing, age structure and occupation

Abstract
Trends in population, housing, age structure and occupation are examined in the inner cities of Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. They are examined to see if the gentrification process, which distinguishes the Australian inner city from most US and UK inner cities, is continuing and whether recent pressures to consolidate the city are reversing the decline in population and dwelling numbers.
