Repair of a Calvarial Defect With Biofactor and Stem Cell–Embedded Polyethylene Glycol Scaffold

Abstract
Segmental bony defects resulting from congenital facial anomalies, facial trauma, infection, or oncologic surgical resection represent a common and significant clinical problem. Data from the US Health Cost and Utilization project show that 12 700 craniotomies and craniectomies were performed in 2001, and procedures to correct defects associated with facial trauma numbered 20 616.1 The national costs for these procedures are estimated to be approximately $549 million and $400 million, respectively.1
