Inflammatory pseudotumor of the spleen

Abstract
Two examples of an unusual [human] splenic inflammatory pseudotumor are reported. Splenectomy followed detection of a mass lesion by CT [computed tomography] scan in 1 case, and in the other, the pseudotumor was an unexpected and incidental pathologic finding. Despite the alarming gross appearance of these lesions, microscopic features were unequivocally inflammatory and benign. This entity has apparently not been described previously in the spleen.
