Estimation of sea-surface temperature from AVHRR data; comments on the paper by Singh et al. (1985)

Abstract

The method proposed by Singh et al. (1985) for estimating sea-surface temperature using one channel of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer is shown to be, in its optimum form, mathematically equivalent to a simple linear regression method. The relationship between single-channel and split-window methods and the reasons for the superiority of the latter over the former are discussed.
