Some Superconducting Intercalation Complexes of TaS2 and Substituted Pyridines

Abstract
Following the discovery of superconductivity in TaS2 (pyridine)1/2, we have prepared a number of similar complexes using substituted pyridines in order to learn how the structure, the stoichiometry, the stability, and the superconducting critical temperature of the complex are interrelated. In these complexes atomically thin, metallic layers of TaS2 and layers of substituted pyridines alternate. X‐ray diffraction studies and chemical analyses show that they are usually highly crystalline and stoichiometric. The critical temperature varies between 1.5 and 4.5°K and generally increases as the number of molecules per TaS2 is increased.
