Abstract
Men's experience of making the decision to have their first child was examined through a phenomenological analysis of unstructured interviews with expectant fathers. Analysis revealed a dialectical structure to men's decision-making processes. Men who had made a conscious decision to become a father were shown to be emotionally invested in reproductive decisions, participating actively in this complex process.Keywords
