Differing Bereavements: Suicide, Natural, and Accidental Death

Abstract
This paper compares the bereavement experiences which attend suicide, natural and accidental death for widows. Two recent studies, Glick, Weiss and Parkes The First Year of Bereavement and Samuel E. Wallace's After Suicide provide the data. The aspects of bereavement which are reviewed and compared include (1) anticipation of death, (2) personal reactions to death, (3) reactions of others, (4) adjustments and reinvolvement. New directions for bereavement research are also suggested.
