Fractures of the Humeral Shaft A Retrospective Study of 240 Adult Fractures

Abstract
Much has been written on the subject of fractures of the shaft of the humerus and there is general agreement that fractures in this area of the humerus are best treated by non - operative techniques.5–8, 15, 20, 25, 30, 32 Although fractures of the humeral shaft are one of the least difficult fractures to treat, non-unions of the humerus are among the most difficult to manage successfully and the functional results of eventual union often leave much to be desired.28, 32 Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to report a large series of humeral shaft fractures treated primarily in most cases by closed techniques. Initial or secondary operative cases are also analyzed. All results arc compared using three different methods of evaluation.
