Third European Evidence-based Consensus on Diagnosis and Management of Ulcerative Colitis. Part 1: Definitions, Diagnosis, Extra-intestinal Manifestations, Pregnancy, Cancer Surveillance, Surgery, and Ileo-anal Pouch Disorders

Abstract
This is the third European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation [ECCO] consensus guideline that addresses ulcerative colitis [UC]. It has been drafted by 28 ECCO members from 14 European countries. It is derived from and updates the previous ECCO consensus advice on UC.1–3 All the authors recognise and are grateful to previous ECCO members who contributed to creating the previous consensus guidelines1–6 on which some of the text is based. Attention is also drawn to other ECCO consensus guidelines which have contributed to this endeavour, on extra-intestinal manifestations [EIMs],7 malignancy,8 imaging,9 small bowel endoscopy,10 opportunistic infections [OIs],11 surgery,12 endoscopy,13 pathology,14 anaemia,15 reproduction and pregnancy,16 and paediatric UC.17
