Abstract
The mouse has been a slower starter than many other organisms in the race to unravel the genetic control of embryonic development. Recent cloning of putative developmental genes combined with new approaches to manipulating the mouse genome seem set, however, to allow the mammalian embryo to move towards the front of the field. Keywords
