Abstract
This article reviews a number of models of management competence and discusses the pedagogical issues surrounding the teaching of management education and development at undergraduate level. It outlines the findings of a research project concerning the management education needs of science graduates as perceived by graduates, academics and employers. The results indicate that those competences perceived as being important are also perceived as requiring greater attention at undergraduate level. Employers view graduates as lacking in both transferable skills and other management competencies. Some potential sectorial differences are outlined. The research was funded by the Enterprise in Higher Education Initiative. Keywords
