Schizophrenia as a Complex Trait

Abstract

GENETIC epidemiological studies of schizophrenia have had a guiding influence on schizophrenia research. In particular, twin and adoption studies that suggested substantial genetic influences on the liability to schizophrenia¹ helped create the empirical rationale for numerous ongoing searches to identify the predisposing genetic loci.^2,3 Recently, several groups^4-6 have presented evidence for genes that may be involved in the etiology of schizophrenia.
