Sequential cross-cultural training for expatriate business managers: predeparture and post-arrival

Abstract
The need for cross-cultural capabilities has become crucial to international business. From empirical studies, it is not clear that pre-departure training can provide international managers with the necessary qualities. This article presents a theoretical framework on the dynamics of host-culture adjustment and discusses its relevance to cross-cultural training. Propositions refer to the timing and the suitable content of sequential training implemented at various phases before and during the expatriate assignment.
