Polymer Based Urea Biosensors: A Brief Overview

Abstract
The present work deals with a brief review on progress made in the development of polymer based urea biosensors in the last two decades. This review is also focused on various techniques/processes of urea measurement such as amperometric, potentiometric, conductometric and optical processes, where polymer is used as an immobilizing material for biomolecules for the development of biosensors. The benefits and disadvantages of such processes for analytical characteristics of polymer based biosensors are discussed in detail. A comparative study has been conducted on various processes of urea analysis using polymer based biosensor and it reveals that potentiometric biosensor is the most promising tool amongst the all, in terms of fast response time, long shelf life and versatile design.
