Sources of Management Problems in Japanese-American Joint Ventures

Abstract

Cultural differences between Japanese and American managers are frequently cited as a major cause of problems in Japanese-American joint ventures. Further clarification of this widespread belief is obtained by focusing upon the epistemological foundation of each culture. Problems are discussed which affect selection of partners, negotiation of contract, and daily operation of the venture.
