The relation between electrical conductivity and an infrared absorption parameter of carbons derived from several polymers

Abstract
A new model including the semiconducting phase for the structure of carbons heat treated at lower temperatures is proposed to explain the relation between the electrical conductivity and the infrared (IR) absorption parameter for four carbonized polymers. The latter parameter was obtained by analyzing the absorption edge in the IR region. The conductivity was semiquantitatively simulated using effective medium theory coupled with percolation theory. Alternatively, an extension of effective medium theory to a three-phase model proposed here is able to simulate the conductivity.
