Elastic Constants of Cadmium from 4.2°K to 300°K

Abstract
The adiabatic elastic constants of cadmium single crystals have been measured by an ultrasonic pulse technique. The values extrapolated to 0°K are: c11=13.08, c33=5.737, c44=2.449, c12=4.048, c13=4.145 in units of 1011 dynes/cm2. A Debye characteristic temperature, θ0, of 213°±1°K has been calculated from these 0°K elastic constants. The temperature dependence of the linear compressibilities, KII and K, has also been calculated.
