DESCRIPTION AND BIOLOGY OF A NEW SPECIES OFDIPLOLEPISFOURCROY (HYMENOPTERA: CYNIPIDAE) INDUCING GALLS ON THE STEMS OFROSA ACICULARIS

Abstract
Diplolepis triforman. sp. is described and distinguished from other members of the genus. Diagnoses are given for closely related species:D. ashmeadi(Beut.),D. inconspicuisDailey and Campbell,D. nodulosa(Beut.), andD. verna(O.S.). Lectotypes are designated forD. ashmeadi,D. nodulosa, andD. verna. The genusDiplolepisFourcroy is briefly reviewed. The biology and ecology ofD. triformaand its gall are described.Diplolepis triformainduces a multichambered, polymorphic stem gall onRosa acicularisand is distributed throughout central and western Canada.
