LASER-GENERATED STRESS WAVES

Abstract
A method of generating stress waves with a laser is demonstrated using a transparent material to impede the expansion of the vaporized absorber. A stress wave whose magnitude is 34 kbar and whose width at half‐maximum is equal to the width of the laser pulse is reported.Keywords
