Abstract
The authors’ purpose in writing this article is to increase the health care professional's awareness of the importance of the sexual system as a component of health and wellness. Because of the personal, and often emotionally charged, nature of sexual assessment, specific suggestions will be given for professional preparation and history taking. A model for therapeutic intervention will be presented to enable the professional to offer appropriate treatment or referral to patients who have sexual difficulties or dysfunctions. Keywords
