WITH THE general public becoming increasingly aware of the scientific investigations linking cigarette smoking with certain diseases, we felt that accurate information regarding cigarette smoking and health should be brought to the attention of the health science students at our medical center. While we did not believe that the students' personal smoking habits were in the realm of our responsibility, we did believe that they would be questioned by their patients or customers about the problems of cigarette smoking and health, and it was part of our teaching obligation to see that their answers and decisions were based upon scientific facts. Methods An educational program was devised with the cooperation of members of the National Office and the West Virginia Division of the American Cancer Society and with the Cigarette Cancer Committee of the Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo.
