Abstract
It is shown, on the basis of the collective electron model, that it may be possible to render certain paramagnetic substances ferromagnetic by the application and subsequent removal of sufficiently strong magnetic fields. The conditions for this effect to occur are discussed and then illustrated with particular reference to palladium.Keywords
