Abstract
Visual impairment is recognized as an important social burden worldwide. The Vision 2020 project, a global initiative, was launched in 1999 with an aim to eliminate avoidable blindness by 2020.1 Accurate information on the prevalence and causes of visual impairment may help international health organizations prioritize resources and develop appropriate human resources and infrastructures. Such information would help in the development of screening programs and the identification of people with an increased risk for diseases. Keywords
