Abstract
At the time of writing this review, there is tremendous worldwide uncertainty and concern regarding the new threat of infection with the novel influenza virus (H1N1), the causative agent of this epidemic of swine flu, first described in April 2009. As of May 19 2009, in the United States there are over 5000 cases reported and 6 deaths (not all of them confirmed), and worldwide the numbers are 9830 with 79 deaths {1,2}.
