Studies in Mechanisms of Penicillin Action. I. Penicillin Effects on Blood Coagulation

Abstract
Detns. of clotting time, bleeding time and prothrombin time were made before and at 15- and 30-min. intervals after penicillin was given orally and intra-musc. to 20 patients. As penicillin conc. in the blood rose, clotting time fell and this persisted up to an hr. after penicillin was completely excreted from the blood. Bleeding time also fell. Prothrombin times had no characteristic change.
