Abstract
Extract General interest in horse bots was first aroused, in New Zealand, during the summer of 1890–91 (Anon, 1891 Anon. Horse flies N.Z. country J. 1891 15 161 162 217–22 [Google Scholar] ). Morgan (1892) Morgan, W. 1892. Bots in horses. N.Z. country J., 16: 347–348. [Google Scholar] tentatively identified specimens in his possession as being Oestrus gasterophilus equis (= G. intestinalis De Geer). Specimens were identified as Gasterophilus nasalis Linnaeus by Ormerod (1893) Ormerod, E. A. 1893. The bot fly. N.Z. country J., 17: 420–422. [Google Scholar] and Riley (1893) Riley, C. V. 1893.
