Abstract
Two monoterpene glycosides were isolated from the fruits of Gymnocladus chinensis (Leguminosae) [a plant widely distributed in south China, the dried fruit of which is used as a crude drug in Chinese traditional medicine as an expectorant]. On the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence, these glycosides were characterized as (6S)-2-trans-6-.alpha.-L-arabinopyranosyloxy-2,6-dimethyl-2,7-octadienoic acid and (6S)-2-trans-2,6-dimethyly-6-[3-O-(.beta.-D-glucopyranosyl)-4-O-(2-methylbutyroly)-.alpha.-L-arabinopyranosyloxy]-2,7-octadienoic acid.
