Abstract
The crystal structure of Bi3TiNbO9, a two-layer member of the Bi4Ti3O12 family, has been refined from x-ray and neutron diffraction data. Bismuth titanium niobate is orthorhombic, space group A21am, with a = 5.431, b = 5,389, c = 25.050 Å, and Z = 4. Distortions from the prototype structure include sizeable shifts along the polar a axis accompanied by rotational motions about b and c, related to the formation of short Bi—O bonds. Keywords
