Abstract
The author outlines the chemical relations among nucleic acid derivatives and gives the comparative physiology of their action. In general, these substances slow the heart, lower blood pressure, inhibit intestinal muscle, stimulate the uterus, and produce a leucocytosis. Biol. tests for adenyl compounds and the potency of some preparations are discussed. Histamine and other substances found in tissue extracts are compared with the nucleic acid derivatives in the following connections: distribution in the body, "Friihgift," reactive hyperemia, vasodilatation accompanying muscular activity, the response of a tissue to injury, and traumatic shock.
