Specimens obtained by conventional forceps biopsy technique are not always adequately large and deeply excised to get an exact histological diagnosis. For this reason big particle biopsy is recommended especially in the differential diagnosis of giant folds including hyperplasia of gastric mucosa and exophytic gastrointestinal tumours. Big particle biopsy was taken in a total of 11 patients. The diameter of the particles was 8 to 20 mm, excision depth was up to 4 mm. In all cases the muscularis mucosae was included, in several cases layers of the submucosa. Additional information was obtained in 7 of 9 cases where comparison with the forceps biopsy was possible. No complications were abserved. Die übliche endoskopische Zangenbiopsie liefert nicht immer für die histologische Beurteilung ausreichend große und tief exzidierte Partikel. Besonders zur Differentialdiagnose von Riesenfalten, Hyperplasien der Magenschleimhaut und bei polypoiden Magen-Darm-Tumoren empfiehlt sich deshalb die Schlingenbiopsie mit dem Polypenschnürer. Bei 11 Patienten wurde die Schlingenbiopsie durchgeführt. Der Durchmesser der Biopsiepartikel betrug 8 bis 20 mm, die Exzisionstiefe bis 4 mm. Miterfaßt war in allen Fällen die Muscularis mucosae, verschiedentlich auch Teile der Submukosa. Zusätzliche Information ergab sich in 7 von 9 Fällen, in denen ein Vergleich zur Zangenbiopsie möglich war. Komplikationen wurden nicht beobachtet.
