Abstract
Two species of Bryocorinae and 19 species of Phylinae are now known from New Zealand. Tytthus chinensis (Stål) is newly recorded from the Kermadec Islands. Eight new genera (Basileobius, Cyrtodiridius, Halormus, Mecenopa, Monospatha, Pimeleocoris, Polyozus, and Xiphoides) and 14 new species of endemic New Zealand Phylinae: Phylini are described and illustrated. A single new species is described in each of six genera: Basileobius gilviceps, Cyrtodiridius aurantiacus, Halormus velifer, Mecenopa albiapex, Monospatha distincta, and Polyozus galbanus. Three new species are described in Pimeleocoris: P. luteus, P. roseus, and P. viridis, and five new species are described in Xiphoides: X. badius, X. luteolus, X. multicolor, X. regis, and X. vacans. Sthenarus myersi Woodward, 1950 is transferred to Xiphoides. Keys to identify the following taxa in New Zealand are provided: subfamilies of Miridae, genera and species of Bryocorinae, tribes of Phylinae, genera and species of Leucophoropterini, genera of Phylini, and species of Pimeleocoris and Xiphoides. Sthenarus rotermundi (Scholtz, 1847) is compared with, and distinguished from, Xiphoides myersi n. comb. The bugs are illustrated with colour habitus photos, SEMs, and drawings including male and female genitalia. A female genitalic structure previously unidentified in some genera of Phylinae is noted. Economic importance is discussed. Keywords
