Abstract
The theory of turbulence in two dimensions is reviewed and unified and a number of hydrodynamic and plasma applications are surveyed. The topics treated include the basic dynamical equations, equilibrium statistical mechanics of continuous and discrete vorticity distributions, turbulent cascades, predictability theory, turbulence on a rotating sphere, turbulent diffusion, two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics, and superfluidity in thin films. Keywords
