Activity of HR 756 against Haemophilus influenzae, Barteroides fragilis and Gram-negative rods

Abstract
The activity of HR 756 was compared with other cephalosporins and cefoxitin. Three groups of organisms which may present particular problems in antibiotic chemotherapy were selected for study. HR 756 was the most potent compound against H. influenzae; β-lacactamase producing strains were also susceptible. Bacteroides fragilis strains were less susceptible to HR 756 than cefoxitin. Against Gram-negative rods HR 756 displayed very high activity particularly towards Klebsiella and Providencia spp. The activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa was also notable, the majority of strains being inhibited by 16 μg/ml.
