Abstract
Serum concentrations of Fe, Cu, Zn and Mg were determined in 27 Swedish children with well controlled diabetes without long-term diabetic complications. Of the diabetic children, 13 had age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Significantly lower serum Mg concentrations were found in the diabetic children than in the matched healthy controls (P < 0.01). The levels of Fe, Cu and Zn did not differ in the diabetic children from those in the controls. A negative correlation between serum Mg level and duration of diabetes was found (P < 0.05). This is apparently the first report of hypomagnesemia in diabetic children. Keywords
