Abstract
Instability as the exponential divergence of initially neighboring flux lines of the coherent state representation of quantum mechanics is shown to reduce in the classical limit to the standard definition of classical instability. The equations for the coherent state flux lines are derived and the proposed definition for quantum instability is shown to be of practical utility by numerical analysis of the double well potential under a monochromatic external driving force. Regular and chaotic flux lines are found in accordance with the classical trajectories. Keywords
