Polarisation beam splitting using twin-elliptic-core optical fibres

Abstract
A new fibre-optic polarisation beam splitting (FPBS) scheme using twin-elliptic-core optical fibres is investigated. The polarisation-dependent coupling in these fibres because of core ellipticity is significant enough to be used for FPBS device applications. Using short pieces of such fibres, good polarisation beam extinction ratios exceeding 26 dB have been achieved.
