Abstract
Certain coefficients that arise in considering the magnetic scattering of neutrons from rare‐earth tripositive ions have been calculated, by using the tensor approach of Johnston, Rimmer, and Lovesey. Together with the integrals derived from the radial wavefunctions, tabulated, for example, by Blume et al., these coefficients allow the neutron magnetic form factors for the rare‐earth ions to be derived. An additional advantage of the tensor approach is illustrated by a discussion of the asymmetry of the magnetization distribution, arising from the coupling of orbital and spin moments.
