Abstract
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients1-4 and poses an immense economic burden.5,6 Numerous successful interventions have been implemented in hospitals around the world to improve prescription of appropriate VTE prophylaxis.7,8 However, a substantial proportion of prescribed VTE prophylaxis doses are not administered.9-14 The leading cause of nonadministration of VTE prophylaxis medication is patient refusal,9,10 the causes of which have been explored through quantitative and qualitative studies.15,16Keywords
