A new inscription in non-vocalized Ge’ez has been discovered on a stele, at in Tǝgray at an important archaeological site. This 15-line inscription reports that ‘ GZ, son of king ḪRF, had this stele erected in 57 days, in the absence of his father and very probably in his honor. A comparison with the inscription RIEth 223 allows the stele to be dated to the 3rd century. This would make it one of the oldest Ge’ez inscriptions known that includes numbers written out in symbols, not spelled out alphabetically. The stele very probably served a memorial function, an indication that steles did not have to serve uniquely as funerary monuments.Nouvelles données sur ‘ GZ, fils de roi, d'après une inscription en ge'ez non-vocalisée du III e . ap.
