Abstract
The Netherlands take a steady pioneering role in higher education policy, particularly the Dutch statute of studies is prominent for its innovative approaches. On this account it offers promising regulations, which can provide impulses for the Austrian statutes of studies for an increase of efficiency and liability. These include measures, which specifically structure the process of selection of studies (activity of choice of studies), develop the introductory study phase as supervisory phase with regard to the choice of studies (Binding Study Advice) and promote a high self-motivation of the students in the course of excellence programs (Honours Programs).
