Abstract
Following the mobilization of Malian women's organizations and the pressure of the international community, Mali adopted in 2009 a Family Code enhancing gender equality. Immediately after its adoption, the code created such a public controversy that it was finally replaced in 2011 by a new version openly discriminatory against women. This article explores this turnaround and, particulary, the failure of women's organizations in their mobilization strategies to defend the code against its detractors. Keywords
