Abstract
In a future generation mobile communications system, a heterogeneous network operating over multiple frequency bands from centimeter-wave (cmWave) to millimeter-wave (mmWave) is expected to provide very-high throughput with enhanced coverage. To investigate similarities across multiple frequency bands, a similarity index measure (SIM) with a focus on the power delay profile (PDP) of the multipath channel is proposed, which is developed in an intuitive form derived from the fading trends. Channel measurement campaigns are conducted at both cmWave and mmWave bands in three typical outdoor environments. Empirically based results verify that the proposed multipath SIM can be leveraged for the characterization of the PDP similarity across multiple frequency bands. Keywords
