Abstract
The preoperative treatment for preventive hemostatis consists of supplying to the patient all necessary factors playing a role in blood clotting, and capillary retraction. Calcium salts, vitamin K preparations, different preparations of thromboplastin, blood transfusion, etc., are most commonly used. Vascular retraction and elasticity factors, such as vitamin C and P are also indicated in patients suffering from vascular rigidity and fragility. In minor and less extensive operations in otorhinolaryngology, if local anesthesia used, the epinephrine and epinephrine-like substances produce the necessary ischemia of the operative field. Even if the vasoconstrictor activity stops during operation, a local application of epinephrine is indicated. The disturbing element in this case is the reflex hyperemia which starts after epinephrine action is arrested. Local application of different preparations containing thromboplastin help very much in obtaining a dry field, and prevent blood loss in cases of diffuse bleeding. Unfortunately there are few indications as to
